被「海角」刺激到 陳玉勳癮來了

導演陳玉勳「叛逃」電影圈13年,幕後心情正是電影人的美麗與哀愁,以「熱帶魚」、「愛情來了」展現不凡潛力的陳玉勳,不諱言當年之所以出走,是對侯孝賢、蔡明亮以及電影氛圍有點「不爽」!

陳玉勳今年重回電影圈,先以金馬獎形象廣告笑翻大家,再以「茱麗葉」其中一段小試身手。陳玉勳的喜感依舊、計畫不少,獲得新聞局2000萬旗艦組補助金「必殺技」明年開拍,要讓ELLA帶觀眾進入全新古裝大片領域。

陳玉勳說:「保證沒有爆破,ELLA演村姑不用武打,一定安全。」

說起當年,陳玉勳演藝圈八卦史也不少,黃子佼當年演「愛情來了」,這次「茱麗葉」記者會再見,陳玉勳笑著說:「嘩,他演戲時好年輕,那時小S也很小咧」而趙正平正是「熱帶魚」、「愛情來了」劇務。陳玉勳後來拍廣告輕鬆打,也算間接撮合周幼婷和馬志翔。

13年前陳玉勳可以說是頭也不回的離開電影,他嘆口氣說:「對電影灰心,還有不爽與反抗。」心理層面來說,當年侯孝賢、蔡明亮電影深受國際重視,陳玉勳另一種片型,通俗的「熱帶魚」、「愛情來了」雖有讚譽,卻激不起波瀾,獎項沒有,票房也不好,令他大為灰心。

國片導演的生活實際面更令陳玉勳覺得「以我能力值得更合理報酬」,便決定投身廣告圈。孟姜女喉糖、黑松偷渡客、輕鬆打等廣告一推出就引起討論,原本打算反抗兩年就再拍電影的陳玉勳,漸漸把電影兩字打包收進記憶深處,當成沒這回事。

「台灣電影導演難道註定和發財無關?」13年來陳玉勳拍了34百支廣告片,說起來很殘酷,一般國片導演費50萬以下,前前後後要搞兩年,除了理想就什麼也不敢想;廣告導演一支報酬約15~30萬元,一個月拍兩支,成家立業什麼都不怕。

「其實編劇也辛苦,一輩子能寫幾個好電影劇本?光當編劇很難活下去吧,可是寫歌詞還可以收版稅咧。」但陳玉勳也坦承,廣告導演是服務業,需要和客戶協調,「感覺有骨氣,好像不應該當廣告導演。」陳玉勳說著自己笑起來。

這幾年看到國片漸漸起飛,陳玉勳開始心癢,「我必須感謝這些後輩導演去衝市場,觀眾對通俗國片開始有了認同感。」真正刺激陳玉勳的是「海角七號」,高中時期他混搖滾樂團,腦海裡有個吉他手去漁村組樂團的故事,還沒寫出來,就看到「海角七號」大賣。

「這件事讓我覺得要趕快!這13年把我在搞笑這塊訓練得更熟練,以兩岸而言台灣綜藝咖的喜感是非常優秀。」李崗請陳玉勳拍「茱麗葉」第3段,讓他拍上癮,短短5天半讓陳玉勳欲罷不能,今後要對電影不離不棄。

Spurred on by [Cape No. 7], Chen Yu-Xun’s Passion for Movies Resurrects

Director Chen Yu-Xun has “betrayed” the movie scene for 13 years and shared on his many emotions from behind the scene.  Known to have displayed potential in directing movies from his earlier works – [Re Dai Yu] (literal transl: Tropical Fish), and [Ai Qing Lai Le] (literal transl: Love is Here), Chen shared that indeed he left the movie scene behind then, due to sharing a different view with Directors such as Hou Hsiao Hsien and Tsai Ming-Liang and was “displeased” with the scene then!

With his return to the movie scene, Chen first wooed the audience with his entertaining version of the commercial for the Golden Horse Awards. Next, he went on to demonstrate more of his talents in filming of [Juliet]. It is a pleasure to see that Chen Yu-Xun still has his magical touch on comedies and plots. Hence he also gained the International Media Centre of Taiwan’s sponsorship for flagship projects fund of NT$20,000,000 for his upcoming movie – [Bi Sha Ji] (literal transl: Must Kill Technique), which is slated to begin filming next year. Director Chen is set to let Ella lead the audiences into a whole new dimension of a period drama movie.

Chen Yu-Xun said, “I guarantee that there will not be any scenes with explosives. Ella will play the role of a village girl and does not need any fighting scene. Hence filming will be safe.”

As he recalled the past, and met Mickey Huang who once acted in [Ai Qing Lai Le] during the press conference for [Juliet], Chen joked, “Wow, he was so young then and Dee Hsu was young too…” On the other hand, Zhao Zheng Ping is the stage manager for both [Re Dai Yu] and [Ai Qing Lai Le]. Chen also indirectly match-made for a pair of artiste couple during the time he filmed for a commercial.

13 years ago, Chen turned his back from the movie scene. To this, he sighed, “During then, I was disappointed, displeased and felt like revolting.” As fellow film directors like Hou and Tsai gained recognition in the international scene, Chen’s movies such as [RDY] and [AQLL] which were more easily understood by the masses did not stand out despite the good reviews. With little controversy, no recognized awards, and impressive box office, Chen felt very demoralized.

The practical issues faced by Chinese film directors also made Chen Yu-Xun felt “I deserve something better in return of my ability”, hence he decided to make a career switch into advertising. The advertisements which he has filmed has aroused the interest of many and created widespread discussions. Despite his initial plan to stage a revolt against filming, Chen gradually put aside “movies” with his soon found success in the advertising scene.

“Are Taiwan movie directors really destined to be poor?” In the past 13 years, Chen Yu-Xun has filmed 300 – 400 advertisements. It is a harsh reality that Chinese movie directors usually earn only NT$500,000 for a movie which may take almost 2 years to complete; such is the price to pay for aspirations. Meanwhile advertising creative directors are paid between NT$150,000 and NT$300,000 for an advertisement which might take 1-2 months to complete, which in short, pays off much better.

“In fact being a scriptwriter is tough too. How many good scripts can one write in his / her life? It is hard to survive solely as a scriptwriter alone. At least one gets royalty as a song writer.” However Chen Yu-Xun also recognizes that an advertising creative director is a form of customer service and requires much coordination with the clients. “It seems one should not be an advertising creative director if you wants to have a mind of your own.” Chen added and laughed.

Having observed the recognition given to local Chinese movies in recent years, Chen’s passion was gradually aroused. “I must really thank these new directors for daring to venture into the market. As a result, audiences are gradually giving recognition to the Chinese movies for the masses.” [Cape No. 7] was the trigger to ignite Chen’s passion for movies filming once again. He used to be part of a rock band in his high school days too and before he could write about his own story of a guitarist’s adventure to seek out a band in a fisherman’s village, [Capt No. 7] has received high box office sales.

“This success story tells me I must act fast! The past 13 years of experience has honed my skills in comedies. In terms of Chinese entertainers, Taiwan’s artistes have also demonstrated brilliance in their abilities to be spot on to bring joy to audiences.” Invited to film for the 3rd part of [Juliet], Chen has since been filming for 5 days and he has enjoyed the experience so much that he would probably swear never to turn his back to movies again.

对比:两年前的SHE也已经很红了吧,早就赚的盆满钵满。可是小姑娘们的邻家女孩本色却一直没变, 难怪人见人爱啊!更何况,现在能源紧张环境污染严重,放弃私家车选择公共交通工具代步绝对是既环保有省钱的不二法宝。偶像都已经做榜样了,你呢?

Superstars, like you and me, hold different views when it comes to ‘finance concept”. In fact, wealth can be a woe for many artistes. Some like Jay Chou, who earned approximately $14 billion in 7 years, probably has no idea how to spend his wealth. On the other hand, there would be others like Zhang Xiao Hui, who lived on her savings and ended up declaring bankrupt. Let us take a glimpse at how these superstars’ spending habits to take a leaf from them.

Estimated Wealth: S.H.E is the most popular Chinese idol group in Asia. With a total of 8 released albums to date, idol drama serials and countless commercial endorsements, these young ladies can be considered billionaires.

Saving Habits: S.H.E has always maintained a simple and adorable image! Despite being superstars, their life is still very simple and fuss-free like girls next door. Having good habits and not being spendthrift, the trio would give their earnings to their mother. They can be said to be the gem of their families. Recently during the entertainment talk show [Here Comes Kang Xi], a music producer shared that she once met Ella two years ago while traveling on the public mini bus. She subsequently learnt from Ella that she has been taking the public bus as daily transport as the bus-stop is located near her house and there is the convenience of a direct bus to her destination. Hence Ella would take the convenient and cheap public transport as her preferred mode of travel.

In Comparison: S.H.E is very popular even two years ago, and their income would have been over the top. But the-girl-next-door attitude in them has never change; it is little wonder why everyone likes them! Furthermore, with the call for energy and earth conservation, to give up on private transport and make use of public transportation or even to walk has become the surest way to do our part for the environment. Since our idol is a good role model, what about you?
